Trees of Life

Trees of Life: A Brief Overview of Creationism and Evolutionism

GENERAL TOPICS:
Creationism vs. evolutionism, Origins & development of life
LEVEL/AUDIENCE:
Non-technical; good topic for non-Christian participants
KEY SCRIPTURES:
   Genesis 1:1 - 2:3, Matthew 19:4, Psalm 104:30
LENGTH: 45-60 minutes
SUMMARY:
The branching diagram used by Darwin in Origin of Species, and by many biologists since, is also a valuable tool to illustrate the differences between descent and design, and to show the basic principles of both evolutionary and creationary views. Emphasis will be made on the many meanings of "evolution," and the difference between what is observed and what is not observed. Present creationary models of life's development are explained briefly, along with biblical support to show the inconsistencies of theistic evolution and other attempts to combine creation/evolution.
Attendees will appreciate the principle of original complexity (as opposed to simple ancestry), uniqueness and separateness of kinds (as opposed to common ancestry), and variation within each kind (as opposed to ongoing "creation" of new species).
